The small pad I actually mouse on, and I keep it separate from the desk mat on purpose. It takes the scuffs and grime so the big pad stays clean, and when it does get dirty I just throw it in the wash. Stitched edges, a grippy base, and a textured surface my mouse tracks on perfectly.
